The Norte Conectado Program expands the communications infrastructure in the Amazon with 12 thousand km of fiber optic cables in 59 municipalities in the states of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia and Roraima.
EAF Siga Conectado hired EnvironPact to conduct environmental studies, define routes and manage the environmental management of the cable installation process in the Norte Conectado Program in the Amazon Network. Six technicians from the company are involved in the project, which will preserve 68 million trees since the cables will be installed in the riverbeds without removing vegetation.
The Norte Conectado Program aims to expand the communications infrastructure in the Amazon Region through the implementation of sub-river fiber optic cables through the construction of eight information highways with 12 thousand kilometers in length in 59 municipalities in the states of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia and Roraima.
José Luis Pizzorno, business development manager at EnvironPact, said that the team’s most significant challenges are the climate and distances in the region. “Participating in such a large project at Amazon is a challenge for the entire team. Much planning is being done to ensure the team’s safety based on the region’s climate, river flow, distances to be covered by river and cultural barriers. We are committed to developing activities with great respect for traditional peoples, with safety and quality.”
